Athletics

At Atonement Lutheran School, we believe that physical activity is an essential part of educating the whole child. Our athletics program serves as a foundation for teaching teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and Christ-centered sportsmanship. Through participation in sports, students not only strengthen their bodies but also grow in character, leadership, and community.

We offer a variety of athletic opportunities that encourage students to develop healthy habits and a positive mind-body connection. Our current sports programs include:

  • Cross Country
  • Flag Football
  • Basketball
  • Cheerleading
  • Golf
  • Volleyball

In addition, we are proud to partner with a local soccer organization to offer a developmentally appropriate soccer program for our younger students. This partnership allows us to extend the values of teamwork and physical fitness to even our youngest learners.

Whether students are competing on the court, cheering from the sidelines, or simply learning the importance of fair play, our athletics program reflects our commitment to nurturing the gifts God has given each child—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Crusader Choir and Theater

Crusader Choir is an elective made up of 4th through 7th grade students. They rehearse during the school day twice per week and sing once a month for chapel and occasionally for Sunday church services. The choir's hallmark event in the fall semester is the annual Christmas concert called Joyous Sounds. The two biggest events in the spring are the Choir Retreat and the Spring Musical. The retreat is an overnight camping trip at Bayou Segnette State Park during which we rehearse for the musical and, of course, have tons of fun! Each year, the choir puts on a fully staged Broadway-style musical—the highlight of the year for many of these students. The opportunity to sing and participate in events as a group allows the students to form a strong bond with each other that lasts throughout middle school, enriching their student life academically, socially, and spiritually.

Extra-Curricular Activities

At Atonement Lutheran School, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities to nurture and engage all types of interests and learners. We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom and that students thrive when given opportunities to explore their God-given talents in creative, hands-on, and collaborative ways.

During the school day, students participate in enriching special classes that include:

  • Art – Encouraging creativity and self-expression
  • Technology – Building digital literacy and problem-solving skills
  • Foreign Language – Promoting cultural awareness and communication
  • Music – Fostering appreciation for rhythm, melody, and worship through song
  • Physical Education – Developing coordination, fitness, and teamwork

Outside of regular class time, students can choose from a variety of clubs that provide opportunities for fun, friendship, and exploration of new interests. Our current club offerings include:

  • Nature Club – Discovering the beauty and wonder of God’s creation
  • Game Club – Building strategic thinking and social skills through play
  • Chess Club – Encouraging logic, patience, and competitive spirit
  • Lego Club – Inspiring creativity, engineering, and imaginative play
  • Media Club – Exploring storytelling, video production, and digital communication

These activities help students grow socially, intellectually, and spiritually, while giving them opportunities to connect with peers, develop leadership skills, and find joy in learning.
